Online Seminar on the Amarna Archaeological Site in Egypt (Cairo, 2 June 2020).
Tell el-Amarna is an extensive archaeological site in the south of the city of Minya. The Amarna site represents the remains of the capital city newly established in 1346 BC and built by the Pharaoh Akhenaten. This ancient city is also known as the place where Nefertiti lived and Tutankhamun spent his childhood. UNESCO commissioned a working paper on the Amarna archaeological site to a team of international experts who prepared the management plan of the site and organized the Online Seminar to assist the Egyptian authorities with the World Heritage nomination development. 26 government officials including the Deputy Mayor of Minya governorate attended the Seminar. The seminar resulted in agreeing to the way forward strategy and the establishment of a network for information sharing and collaboration towards the inscription of the site on the World Heritage List. It worth mentioning this activity has been implemented within UNPDF/Egypt: Prosperity group as it contributes to targets of Egypt 2030 - Pillar 8 on Culture. Â
