Oskar Metsavaht and Mauro Colagreco amongst speakers at special session on biodiversity

This special session on biodiversity presented the project “Improving the resilience and halting biodiversity loss of the greater Amazon Basin”, successful example of UNESCO partnership with LVMH. For the occasion, opening speeches were delivered by Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, and Antoine Arnault, member of the Board of Directors of LVMH.
The Amazon is not just a major carbon sink: it's also an extraordinary haven of biodiversity, home to a quarter of all terrestrial species.

Chef and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Biodiversity Mauro Colagreco shared his vision, experience, and choice to commit to preserving and respecting the environment and biodiversity through circular gastronomy and by offering sustainable gastronomy.
By choosing what we eat, we choose the world we want to live in tomorrow.

Brazilian Artist, fashion designer and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Sustainability, Oskar Metsavaht shared his long-lasting involvement alongside UNESCO on environment, social inclusion, and sustainable human development, as key to building a culture of peace. Oskar Metsavaht also touched on the deep connection existing between indigenous peoples and the Amazon rainforest. He reiterated that the protection of biodiversity is not only the preservation of biomes but also related to the structures of values, behaviors, and representations (sometimes religious, ethical, cultural) associated with them.
Oskar Metsavaht also took part in the "Photographers shine a light on biodiversity" exhibition on UNESCO's fences. Three contemporary photographers have been given carte blanche to exhibit their work during the 2023 General Conference. Carolina Arantes, Oskar Metsavaht and Joan da Malla are keen chroniclers of the Amazon rainforest and champion our need to safeguard it.
