Project
Post-COVID-19 Management of World Heritage Sites: Integrating Conservation, Tourism and Local Livelihood Strategies at the Maya Site of Copán, Honduras

What is the project about?
91Â鶹¹ú²ú¾«Æ·×ÔÅÄ formulated a multinational project, funded by a contribution from Japan to the World Heritage Centre, to integrate conservation, tourism, and local livelihoods strategies into the management of World Heritage sites, in the context of post-pandemic recovery from COVID-19.
This project benefits four World Heritage sites, each in a different region of the world; In the case of Latin America and the Caribbean, the Maya Site of Copán, in Honduras, has been selected. Through an inclusive process, we are going to support the development of a management plan for the site, which contemplates the reduction of disaster risks and contributes to promoting a sustainable tourism model.
The project seeks to generate a process for the formulation of a Site management plan based on transparency, inclusiveness, and participation.
Objective of the project
Promote the development of a management plan through a participatory process of capacity building that considers interests.
Address the concerns of the various actors involved in the management and use of the Site focused on creating a sustainable tourism model, the identification of income-generating activities, disaster risk management, and digitalization of management.
