With the presence of the private sector, UNESCO presents progress on the project "Strengthening Digital Skills of Teachers in Chile"

Stakeholders such as Huawei, Google, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), representatives from universities, educational institutions, and various civil society organisations and private sector entities attended the workshop "Progress of the Project Strengthening Teachers' Digital Skills in Chile," held at UNESCO’s Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean in Santiago, Chile.
The main objective of the session was to present progress and receive feedback on the outputs generated as part of a joint initiative by UNESCO and the Ministry of Education of Chile, which was launched in 2023. This initiative aims to provide strategic contributions for the development of digital skills among primary and secondary school teachers in public schools across the country.
The products of the "Strengthening Teachers' Digital Skills in Chile" project include an updated Digital Competency Framework for Teachers, a self-assessment tool for competencies, and a digital platform offering personalised training opportunities for teachers.
According to Valtencir Mendes, Head of Education at UNESCO Regional Office, “Chile has stood out in the region for its public policies and continuous training programmes, which aim to equip teachers with the tools and knowledge necessary to effectively integrate digital technologies into their teaching practices.”
Meanwhile, Lilia Concha, Director of the Centre for Teacher Development, Experimentation, and Pedagogical Research at the Ministry of Education, highlighted that this project represents both a challenge and an opportunity to enhance teachers' autonomy, potentially contributing to the creation of more tailored professional development paths that meet their specific needs.
In today’s context of uncertainty, educational challenges, and rapid transformations, UNESCO supports initiatives like this to strengthen teachers' digital skills, recognising them as key agents in promoting inclusive, quality education in Latin America and the Caribbean.
