The event organized by the Ibero-American Intergovernmental Cooperation Network for the Education of People with Special Educational Needs (RIINEE) focuses on presenting the updated proposal of the Regional Information System on Education for Students with Disabilities (SIRIED). This update is crucial to reflect advances in inclusive education and improve the educational quality for people with disabilities. The meeting aims to present the progress of the working group to the RIINEE member countries and to create a forum for discussion and collaboration among specialists in the field.

The process of reviewing and updating SIRIED, initiated in the second half of 2022, was carried out by a working team composed of Argentina, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Uruguay, and Chile. This multinational collaboration focused on integrating new conceptual and methodological frameworks, assessing regional statistical capabilities, and developing an updated set of indicators and a new analytical model.

Since its inception in 2007 by the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education in Latin America and the Caribbean with the support of the Spanish government, SIRIED has aimed to provide a regional information system on the educational situation of people with disabilities. The need for this update arises from significant advances in conceptual and methodological definitions by international actors focused on inclusive education.

The workshop will feature the participation of focal points from the RIINEE member countries, representatives from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, the UNESCO team in charge of the project, and invited specialists. The event's agenda includes sessions on the development and future of SIRIED, the implementation of new conceptual frameworks for educational monitoring, and the presentation of the system's updated proposal.

The event's sessions will allow for a rich exchange of ideas and experiences, focusing on how countries can adapt and use the updated SIRIED to improve the monitoring and evaluation of the educational situation of people with disabilities. This meeting represents a significant step towards a more inclusive and equitable education in the Ibero-American region.
