Put a Face to Science - UNESCO Awards Ethiopian Women Researchers

In celebration of the Ethiopia Science Week, UNESCO Addis Ababa Office awarded three women scientists/researchers a laptop each during the celebration of Ethiopian Women in Science Day, which took place on 22 November 2019 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

 

The researchers worked with farmers to help them introduced to new technologies and guided them to increase the quality and quantity of crop productivity. At a larger scale, the works of these researchers contributed in the areas of i) water & sanitation (SDG 6 targets 6.3; 6.4; 6.5; 6.6) including water-related ecosystems; ii) address climate change issues through awareness-raising and capacity building via more resilience, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning.

 

The three researchers that UNESCO recognized with their achievements are Fenet Belay, Teguadda Alebachew and Almaz Giziew (PhD).

 

The Ethiopia Science Week was organized by the Ethiopian Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MoSHE), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Ethiopian Academy of Sciences (ECA) from November 5 鈥 13 November 2019.

 

UNESCO Liaison Office awarded the laptops under a special topic in the framework of the Science Week called 鈥淲omen in Science and Technology鈥.
