Project
#QuartierVertChallenge

In Dakar, Abdou Touré decided to clean up in front of his house and plant trees and flowers, as a gesture in his own way to counter the problems of waste and a lack of vegetation in his neighborhood. To motivate his neighbors and raise awareness among other citizens, he posts videos of his clean-ups and planting actions on social networks, using the hashtag #QuartierVertChallenge. The #QuartierVertChallenge community was born in Abdou Touré’s neighborhood and, for over a year, the initiative has spread to 15 African countries.
An initiative adapted to different local realities
In each country, members adapt the #QuartierVertChallenge to their local contexts.
In Senegal, Abdou Touré has integrated urban agriculture into his activities, does micro-gardening on his terrace and has developed an educational program for schools.
Several neighborhoods in Dakar are being transformed, and this movement is inspiring other initiatives. In the coming years, Abdou Touré plans to expand the project’s presence in other regions and countries, provide members with technical support and make educational tools and guides available.
