Reaching the end of the KV22 tomb preservation process

Dr Fathy Yasin, head of Luxor Antiquities directorate said:
“The Valley of the Kings is one of Egypt’s most spectacular destinations, this area contains a staggering amount of exquisitely decorated tombs of Egypt’s ancient kings including the Tomb of Amenhotep III which will be opened to the public after completion of the project.”
Also, Ambassador Oka congratulated the commencement of the project implementation. Building on the previous phases, he expressed his high hope for the project to be best practice in international cooperation in increasing awareness of the value of cultural heritage and in cooperation with Egyptian authorities, sharing the knowledge of Japanese experts, and benefitting from UNESCO technical expertise and implementation guidance”.
Dr. Sanz, UCO Director a.i. underlined the importance of this project within the framework of the management plan development of the WH site in Luxor. In the following fourteen months workshops will take place before the completion of the project on signage, preparing the tomb for visitation.
The conservation works will be conducted following the international standards: maximum consolidation/ stabilization and safeguarding of the wall paintings, minimum interventions, and cost-effective actions
During the implementation of the above work, training activities of local/national staff of the Egyptian government are planned for site management and environmental monitoring of the site and workshops for community engagement with a view to opening the tomb to public.
The group agreed on the importance of setting awareness raising programme and initiatives: documentary, publication and exhibition at Luxor Museum and thanked the Dr. Alaa ElMinshawy, Director Luxor Museum for hosting the discussion and for the visit.
