Project

Regional Alliance for Educational Transformation and Innovation" (ARTIE)

This initiative is a collaborative response to regional challenges that brings together countries, organizations, and networks around the promotion of educational innovation. It is a "network of networks" led by UNESCO Regional Office in Santiago for its Member States serving the Steering Committee of SDG4 and in coordination (regional level) with UNESCO's global digital transformation agenda.

This joint effort aims not only to collaborate in accelerating the recovery of learning lost during the pandemic but also in transforming education to ensure its relevance and quality in the 21st century. The alliance supports the formulation and development of public policies on educational innovation, based on evidence and aimed at sustainability and scalability at a regional level, to build more resilient, inclusive, and adaptive educational systems through dynamic and relevant regional cooperation.

By fostering a systematic and value-added exchange among UNESCO Member States, the ARTIE project contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal 4, which seeks to ensure quality education and lifelong learning for all.

Background

The region of Latin America and the Caribbean was at an educational crossroads even before the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Economic difficulties and the devastating effects of the virus contributed to a slowdown and stagnation in the advancement of educational achievements between 2015 and 2021 concerning the SDG4 targets of the Education 2030 Agenda, as revealed by the study "Education in Latin America and the Caribbean at a crossroads" launched in 2022 by UNESCO, ECLAC, and UNICEF.

This crisis context highlights the critical need for innovative and transformative intervention that not only addresses emerging learning gaps but also reconsiders educational paradigms towards more resilient, inclusive models capable of preparing future generations for the challenges of the 21st century.

Innovation thus becomes the cornerstone not only to recover what was lost but also to give a new impetus towards educational transformation, ensuring that every child and youth in the region can access quality education that allows them to develop their potential. In this challenging but opportunity-filled context, the ARTIE initiative emerges, aimed at being a driver of profound change in the educational landscape of Latin America and the Caribbean.
