Regional Meeting of the ASPnet: Strengthening the Network of UNESCO Associated Schools for a Sustainable and Peaceful Future

Delegates from Latin America and the Caribbean will meet in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to discuss the strengthening of ASPnet in the region.

The UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet), established in 1953, is the world's largest network of educational institutions, encompassing approximately 12,000 members in 182 countries. The network includes a variety of educational institutions, from preschools to teacher training centers, both public and private.

Throughout its 70 years of existence, ASPnet has promoted a peaceful, healthy and sustainable world, where education plays a crucial role in developing the skills and knowledge to live in harmony with others and the environment. ASPnet acts as a laboratory of ideas supporting educational transformation and the achievement of Target 4.7 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The ASPnet Coordination Unit at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris has planned a series of Regional Meetings during 2024-2025 to revitalize the network and consolidate the efforts made in each region to achieve SDG4 Target 4.7. 

Meanwhile, the UNESCO Regional Office in Santiago has proposed the establishment of a regional network of ASPnet national coordinators in Latin America and the Caribbean with the aim of strengthening the exchange of practices and deepening cooperation within the framework of the action of the Regional Steering Committee for SDG4-Education2030.

The Regional Meeting of the ASPnet : 鈥淪trengthening the Network of UNESCO Associated Schools for a Sustainable and Peaceful Future鈥 will be held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from November 6 to 8, 2024. The meeting will bring together ASPnet coordinators from the region.

The objectives of the event include updating colleagues from the region on developments related to the UNESCO ASPnet ecosystem. This includes the exchange of ideas on the implementation of the recommendations of the ASPnet Evaluation (2024) aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Network and strengthening the capacities of its members in Latin America and the Caribbean in the use of the new global platform.
