Regional Technical Dialogue: Experiences in the use of EMIS for educational inclusion

In a joint effort by the Office for Latin America and the Caribbean of IIPE UNESCO and UNESCO Santiago, a Regional Technical Dialogue (RTD) will be held, focused on sharing and discussing experiences using the Educational Information and Management Systems (EMIS, SIGED in its Spanish acronym) towards educational inclusion.
The event, part of the initiative from the Community of Data Specialists for Educational Planning, aims to unveil the analysis of EMIS usage experiences in countries that participated in a recent study. The purpose is to establish instances of exchange between the research team and the specialized audience, shedding light on regional advancements and challenges in this area.
A primary goal of the dialogue is to examine how data produced by EMIS can drive educational inclusion and enhance decision-making in educational planning and management. Practical examples will be highlighted, such as initiatives in Colombia to identify people in mobility situations, in Chile to gain an integral view of the educational system, and in Peru with its "Alerta Escuela" system.
Key topics of the dialogue will include:
- Challenges faced by Latin American countries in data production and usage for educational inclusion.
- Specific EMIS designs and applications in Colombia, Chile, and Peru.
- Lessons learned that might benefit other countries in the region.
This meeting seeks not only to share findings but also to promote the management and dissemination of essential statistical information, strengthening the regional network of educational policy specialists.
