Budget: more than 5M$

Project duration: 23-04-2018

Location: Mosul, Iraq

The primary goal of the project is to foster reconciliation and social cohesion in Mosul and its Old Town, through the restoration and reconstruction of Al-Nouri Mosque and its Al-Hadba Minaret as iconic landmarks, as well as a Memorial. The project includes skills development and job creation components to provide young men and women from Mosul with a source of livelihood through the heritage rehabilitation sector.

The project concerns the restoration and reconstruction of the historic landmarks of Mosul, notably the emblematic Al-Nouri Mosque and its celebrated, leaning 45-metre Al-Hadba Minaret, built more than 840 years ago.

  1. The first year will focus on documenting and clearing the site as well as drawing up plans for its reconstruction.
  2. The following four years will focus on the restoration and historically faithful reconstruction of the Leaning Minaret, the Al-Nouri Mosque and adjacent buildings.
  3. The city’s historic gardens and other open spaces and infrastructures are also part of the plan, which foresees the building of a memorial and site museum.
