Science competition to foster innovation and research capacity in the Arab World
The UNESCO Intel Science Competition – Arab World 2012 is a pan-Arab science competition organized under the Patronage of UNESCO by Intel Corporation and the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Education to encourage high school students of the age group 14-18 to gain interest in scientific research and conduct research projects based on the methodology and tenets of scientific research.
More than 120 students from Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates will participate in the UNESCO-Intel Science Competition - Arab World 2012 on 16-19 December at the Dubai World Trade Centre, United Arab Emirates.
They will showcase their projects across various scientific disciplines including Behavioral & Social Sciences, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Energy & Transportation, Environmental management & Sciences, Engineering, Mathematical Sciences & Computer Science, Medicine & Health Sciences, Microbiology, Plant Sciences, Physics & Astronomy and Earth & Planetary Science. The various awards total USD 25,000, among other valuable prizes.
This initiative is part of UNESCO and Intel’s shared commitment to support sustained economic growth in the Arab region by fostering local innovation and research capacity. In collaboration with governments and educators, this Science Competition means to help transform education, by expanding local research initiatives and applying state-of-the-art technologies to support local talent and enable countries to compete in the global economy.
