UNESCO-IsDB project: STI Policy event in Mozambique

UNESCO, the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the Government of Mozambique presented the achievements and final results of the IsDB-UNESCO project on Strengthening the inclusive Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) system in Mozambique to national institutions on 11 April. The event was marked by a presentation of the new national STI policy which was developed with multi-stakeholder participation and inputs from various consultations with a broad range of national and regional STI stakeholders.

The policy development process, coordinated by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education, is the result of the joint UNESCO and IsDB cooperation to strengthen national STI systems and build robust, evidence-based and inclusive policies.

The Policy was developed using findings and results from previous project activities, notably the report on Mapping Research and Innovation in the Republic of Mozambique鈥, available in and , published as the 9th volume of UNESCO鈥檚 .

The event was attended by representatives of the Islamic Development Bank, UNESCO, the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, the Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Mozambique to UNESCO, and other high-level government officials and representatives of STI institutions in the country.

The final step in the policy process will be its presentation to the Council of Ministers of Mozambique, for final validation and submission for adoption.
