Tbilisi, the 2021 World Book Capital received UNESCO鈥檚 trophy created by Hedva Ser

On the occasion of World Book and Copyright Day on the 23rd of April 2021, Tbilisi was named as the World Book Capital for the year 2021 and will undertake to promote books and reading and to organize activities over the year.
The trophy created by the artist Hedva Ser, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Cultural Diplomacy, has been passed on from the Deputy Mayor of Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) 2020 World Book Capital, Mr Anwar bin Mohd Zain to the Mayor of Tbilisi (Georgia), Mr Kakha Kaladze.
A symbol of the World Book Capital, this sculpture is transmitted every year from one city to another. It 鈥渞epresents the pages of a book caught by the wind in a fight for freedom鈥, according to the author.
Tbilisi is the twenty-first city to become World Book Capital since 2001. Other cities received the trophy created by Hedva Ser, such as Wroclaw (Poland) in 2016, Conakry (Guinea) in 2017, Athens (Greece) in 2018, Sharjah (UEA) in 2019, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) in 2020.
