Over the course of its editions, this newsletter has served as a bridge, connecting opportunities and the vibrant talent of the Caribbean’s cultural and creative sectors. The UNESCO programme , funded by the European Union, concludes this month, so does this publication as part of this initiative. As we bring this chapter to a pause, we celebrate the artists, creators and professionals who have explored, applied and grown through the calls featured here.

This final issue continues our mission and presents 65 incredible opportunities across 21 countries, including residencies, scholarships, training, awards and more. Whether your passion lies in cinema, music, design, literature or sustainable tourism, you’ll find something to inspire you!

Documentary Creation: From Idea to Screen – International Film and Television School of San Antonio de los Baños (Cuba)

Combining theory and practice, this workshop will guide participants from the initial search for an idea to the production of a documentary and its final screening. Participants will be able to propose their own ideas, from which a selection will be made through a pitching process. The chosen projects will be developed in groups of 3 or 4 students. The entire creative process will be supported by guidance in directing, cinematography, sound and editing, as well as production support for filming. The workshop lasts 3 weeks and costs 2,000 euros.

The call is open to writers residing in Latin America and the Caribbean who work in the Spanish language and have published works. The three-month residency will take place at the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid.

Platform is an art organization based in Vasa, a relatively peripheral Finnish town. The residency programme in Sofia, Bulgaria, is aimed at theatre creators, playwrights and actors who seek to explore innovative approaches in their field. Each selected artist receives financial support to cover accommodation and travel expenses, as well as a budget of €500 for the presentation of their work, professional photography of the event and video documentation.

International Music Projects – Goethe Institute (Germany)

Funding is available for professional musicians, as well as amateurs and novices and ensembles from developing and transitioning countries, who are invited to participate in music projects in Germany. A prerequisite for funding is an invitation and application from collaborators in Germany. The music project must include at least three events (concerts, workshops, panels, etc.). Funding applications for international music projects must be received at least three months before the project start date.

Theatre 

Goethe Institut – Shadowing programme for young theatre professionals from abroad (Germany)

The shadowing programme offers international artists within the field of Performing Arts an internship for a stay in Germany at a theatre or production house. In addition to a monthly allowance of €1,200 for room and board, the grant covers travel expenses to Germany, accident and health insurance, as well as up to €300 to cover costs of transport and admission to other theatrical productions in Germany.

Luxembourg Art Prize (Luxembourg)

The Luxembourg Art Prize is an international art prize awarded annually and organized by the Pinacothèque, a private museum located in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Each year, the prize aims to discover new talents, both amateur and professional, regardless of age or nationality. It is open to artists working in one or more of the following media: drawing, printmaking, installation, painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media and decorative arts (textiles and materials, glass, wood, metal, ceramics, mosaic, paper or other techniques). Each edition, the museum selects 24 finalists, and an independent jury chooses 3 winners. The cash prizes are distributed as follows: €20,000 for first place, €10,000 for second place and €5,000 for third place.

Paidós Prize (Spain)

The Paidós Prize by Grupo Planeta is an international award for unpublished essays written in Spanish. Only texts on the humanities or social sciences are accepted. Reflecting its global scope, the jury will be made up of distinguished figures from Spain and Latin America in the fields of culture, social sciences and humanities. The Paidós prize offers €35,000, and the winning work will be published in all Spanish-speaking territories where Paidós is a leading publisher.

Art & Environment Prize – Lee Ufan x Guerlain (France) 

With the Art & Environment 2025 Prize, Lee Ufan Arles and Guerlain aim to create a space for artistic dialogue that bridges the conceptual, semantic and aesthetic worlds of emerging designers and Lee Ufan’s work. The Prize particularly values bold projects that offer a fresh perspective on our relationship with modernity, as well as works that unfold over extended periods and engage deeply with nature, the environment and materials. The winner will benefit from a 6 to 8 week support programme in early 2026, which includes access to a production space and accommodation in the heart of Arles.

Artists of all backgrounds and nationalities are welcome to apply. International Theatre, Art and New Technologies (Italy) 

Between October and November 2025, the Kyber Theatre will host the 12th edition of The Wonders of the Possible, the International Theatre, Art and New Technologies Festival (LMDP), in Cagliari, Italy. The LMDP Festival is the first of its kind in Italy, dedicated to promoting the intersection of artistic and technological languages. Winners of the Open Call will receive full coverage of travel, accommodation and meals in Calgari, as well as an attendance fee for presenting their performance over two evenings.

Bucharest International Dance Film Festival BIDFF (Romania)

Filmmakers, dance artists, animators, visual artists and digital art makers are invited to submit their works for the International Short Film Competition of the festival set to take place between from 11 to 14 September 2025, under the theme ‘Keep Calm and Keep on Moving’. For the first time, BIDFF is also looking for VR experiences that use movement as their primary language or focus on the body as the central subject.

Malta Biennale

The next edition of the Malta Biennale will be held from 11 March to 29 May 2026.  As in previous years, events will take place in museums and historic sites managed by Heritage Malta, in Valletta, Birgu, Xagħra and ÄŠittadella in Gozo. An international open call for artist submissions is currently underway, with over 100 proposals already received from around the world. Acclaimed international curator Rosa Martínez has been appointed Artistic Director for this second edition of the Malta Biennale.

Under the theme ‘Connecting Emotions’, the organizers of the Dominican Film Festival (FestCineRD) have announced the call for entries for the sixth edition of the festival, which will take place in 2025. Applicants may submit their work in the following categories: Fiction Feature Film Competition, Documentary Film Competition, Fiction Short Film Competition (Made Here), Documentary Short Film Competition (Made Here), Dominicans in the Diaspora Competition and Fiction or Documentary Feature Film Competition – Looking Again. The call is open to Dominican directors and producers.

Havana International Film Festival (Cuba)

The 46th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema will be held in Havana from 4 to 14 December 2025. The festival celebrates and awards films that enrich and reaffirm the cultural identity of Latin America and the Caribbean through their artistic and cultural significance. In addition to showcasing Latin American cinema, the programme features contemporary world cinema, industry initiatives and a series of meetings and seminars on culturally relevant topics.

Transforme is a programme initiated by the Hermès Corporate Foundation. International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (The Netherlands)

The IDFA Bertha Fund supports independent, critical and artistic voices from around the world with the aim of stimulating and strengthening the creative documentary film sector. The fund offers grants for the development and production of projects. In addition to funding, it provides personalized advice and training programmes to support filmmakers in their creative and production processes. Furthermore, beneficiaries are invited to participate in various industry events organized by IDFA, allowing them to expand their international network and knowledge of the documentary industry.

The Caribbean Culture Fund (CCF) is pleased to announce its third call for proposals. This call is divided into two themes and a third call for residencies and fellowships. The CCF invites individuals, organizations and institutions to submit their cultural and creative projects. Selection will be based on respect for the values and criteria defined in the below link, alignment with the requirements, the quality and feasibility of proposals and on the proven abilities of project leaders.

Photography  

2025 project grants for women & nonbinary photographers – Women Photograph

Thanks to generous support from MPB, these US$5,000 grants will support photography projects, either new or in-progress, from visual journalists working in a documentary capacity. Five grants are available, at least one of which will be earmarked for a nonbinary or transgender photographer. Funding may be used to cover the hard costs of reporting, photographers’ creative fees and any other expenses that support the production of new work. This grant is not meant to support the production of books, exhibitions, workshops or other secondary materials.

Grants for Supranational Archival Projects – IBERARCHIVOS

The second call for grants for supranational archival projects is aimed at institutions from at least two countries participating in the programme. This call seeks to promote access to information and strengthen collective memory in Ibero-America by supporting projects with regional impact in the management and preservation of documentary heritage. Institutions in Cuba and the Dominican Republic are eligible within the geographical scope of Transcultura.

Caribbean Stock Photography: Digital Business Solution – Caribbean Development Bank 

The US$100,000 Caribbean Stock Photography grant call invites qualified entities to design and operationalize a business model and digitized solution dedicated to Caribbean stock visual content. The intention is to centralize resources, enhance commercial viability, improve multimedia archiving and boost the overall competitiveness of these subsectors. The grant provides funding for solution development and testing activities and is intended to be a launch pad for attracting future investment and sustained operations. The grant is supported through the CIIF Enabling Environment Grant Stream.

Pink Screens Exhibition 2025 (Belgium) 

For the 24th edition of the Pink Screens Festival, taking place from 30 October to 10 November 2025, the non-profit organisation Genre d'à côté is organizing an exhibition celebrating LGBTQIA+ diversity. The exhibition will be held at the Galeries cinema. The call for projects is open to anyone who identifies with the LGBTQIA+ community, whether a student or an established artist. All forms of artistic expression are welcome, including painting, installation, video, photography, drawing, fanzines, performance and more.

Biennale College Cinema (Italy)

In 2025, the Biennale College Cinema announced its 14th edition with two calls for applications for Italian and international teams composed of a director and a producer. For each call, the initiative is looking for feature-length audiovisual concepts that can be produced with a budget of €200,000. Starting with this edition, selected projects will be developed, produced and completed in time for screening at the Venice International Film Festival in 2026.

Biennale College Cinema – Immersive (Italy) 

The Biennale College Cinema is seeking 12 international immersive project concepts, including 2 from Italy. Each project should have a maximum duration of 30 minutes and should be made with budget of up to 75,000 euros and should be ready for exhibition at the 2026 Venice International Film Festival. It is essential that the projects submitted can only be realized using immersive technologies. Participants are responsible for covering their own travel expenses for any workshops or events they are invited to attend.

International Co-Production Funding and Support (Croatia) 

The Croatian Audiovisual Centre provides funding for fiction, documentary and animation films, both feature length and shorts originating outside Croatia in which a Croatian producer is involved as a creative collaborator and provider of a minority of the finance needed; and where the film is structured as an official co-production.

This call defines ‘creation-in-residence’ as processes of dramaturgical, choreographic and/or scenic research and exploration that foster artistic dialogue among creators from IBERESCENA Member Countries. Regarding the Creation-in-Residence Spaces, the call recognizes these as specialized creative centres, as well as companies, groups and/or public or private organizations with experience in artistic exploration in any of its forms.

Globus FORWARD – Nordic Fund

Globus FORWARD aims at strengthening the long-term capacities of existing collaborations that have already progressed from their initial phases and express an articulated need and motivation/readiness to develop their way of working in a long-term perspective. As with the previous phases of Globus, the focus is on collaborations that work with experimental approaches and methods, and which relate to their wider surroundings by drawing upon specific local practices and contexts.

Werner Fenz Grant for Art in Public Space 2026 (Austria)

This 17,000 euros grant aims to assess the status of art in public space, with an international jury selecting a temporary project every two years. With the establishment of the Cultural Industries Development Act, a fund was created called the Cultural Industries Development Fund whose primary objectives are to: (a) finance cultural projects and programmes that are designed to develop the creative industries sector and train creative entrepreneurs and other people working in the creative industries; (b) provide creative entrepreneurs or creative practitioners with non- repayable grants to enable them to participate in local and overseas events, workshops and seminars and allow for training, marketing, export and product development.
