The disaffection with the form, content, and substance of schooling is growing among the youth of the Global South.

Before the pandemic, there were already twelve million boys, girls, and young people out of school in Latin America and the Caribbean. More than half of the youth are dissatisfied with school, a third believe it doesn't work, and a fifth point out that what is learned is not useful for life or work.

In response, this publication proposes a process of collective transformation through socio-emotional learning aimed at working with young people in spaces of formal and non-formal education. This is a long-term transformation, requiring the development of three interrelated stages in constant interaction. Thus, this document presents a model that considers:

  • Generating opportunities for socio-emotional learning in four scenarios: the classroom, the school, the territory, and across the educational system.
  • Facilitating the factors for the appropriation of such learning.
  • Ensuring its deployment scenarios in: i) pedagogical and formative practices, ii) training and well-being of teams, iii) organization and culture of educational spaces, iv) curricular framework, and v) community and networks.
