The Government of South Sudan has formed a South Sudan National Ad-Hoc Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Coordination Committee chaired by the Ministry of General Education and Instruction (MoGEI) on 4 July 2019. The committee is made up of 19 agencies and institutions representing the government, the private sector, youth and the civil society.

The Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) organized a meeting on 4 July 2019, with support from the CapED programme, to establish a National Ad-Hoc Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Coordination Committee. The meeting welcomed 21 ministries and commissions, NGOs and faith-based organizations, as well as private sector representatives.

Now established, the Coordination Committee chaired by the Ministry of General Education and Instruction (MoGEI) will set up a legal basis to found a TVET governance body with the aim to overcome the current fragmentation in the sector and implement more organized, effective and market-responsive TVET in the country. Participants agreed on a Committee made up of 19 agencies and institutions representing the government, the private sector, youth and the civil society. The Committee will be active for one year, with the possibility of extension, and will not interrupt any ministries or stakeholders from carrying out current TVET activities.

In the context of South Sudan, TVET can give another chance to young women and men, as well as adults who have missed out on formal education. It can serve as a vehicle to improve economic means and livelihoods and can contribute to peace building in the face of conflict. To this end, the Government, with technical support from UNESCO’s Capacity Development for Education (CapED) Programme, is strengthening TVET in the country by improving its governance and coordination for better service delivery.

Looking ahead, 91Â鶹¹ú²ú¾«Æ·×ÔÅÄ been requested to organize a follow up TVET workshop on 22-23 August 2019 as a next step in developing a work plan for the TVET Coordination Committee.
