The CEB examined and adopted the reports of the three CEB high level committees which deal with programmes, management and developments issues.

The Board then discussed issues pertaining to cyber-security and cyber-crime which are of concern to the entire UN system. Addressing the CEB, the Director-General underscored that "91Â鶹¹ú²ú¾«Æ·×ÔÅÄ been dealing with a broad range of issues related to Internet and knowledge societies for many years, including through its involvement in the Broadband Commission for Digital Development, the World Summit on Information Societies as well as through the publications of reports on the ethical dimensions of the information societies". She informed the CEB of the resolution which UNESCO's General Conference adopted by consensus last week which requests her " to prepare a comprehensive study of the Internet related issues within UNESCO’s mandate, including access to information and knowledge, freedom of expression, privacy, and ethical dimensions of the information society, containing possible options for future actions through convening an inclusive multi-stakeholder process which includes governments, private sector, civil society, international organisations and the technical community, to inform her report on the implementation of WSIS outcomes to the 38th session of the General Conference".

The chair of UN Water updated the Board on the activities of the Group, expressing his appreciation for UNESCO's coordination of the 2013 International Year of Water Cooperation on behalf of UN-Water and for the five major regional events, involving multi-stakeholders and the private sector, held this year. "Water has become a strategic issue in the 21st century and water diplomacy is an essential component for peace building" said the Director-General.

The afternoon session was devoted to a review of MDGs implementation at the country level and to assess the progress made by the UN system in Burkina Faso, El Salvador, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan and Nepal. The discussion benefited from the presence of the President of the World Bank, Mr Jim Kim, and of the UN Resident Coordinators and World Bank representatives in the five countries. "I fully support the initiative of the President of the World Bank which led to reviewing at each CEB session how to accelerate MDGs implementation and I commend this system-wide approach under the chairmanship of the Secretary-General" said the Director-General. She underscored that "it is essential to keep focusing on education, literacy, gender equality and girls access to schools". She also stated that "ensuring the collection of reliable data and statistics is paramount and UNESCO, through its Institute of Statistics, is committed to help developing national capacity building".

Finally, the CEB unanimously accepted Ms Bokova's offer to host the 2015 CEB Spring session at UNESCO's Headquarters in Paris."

Today, the Director-General is attending the CEB Retreat which will discuss the post-2015 development agenda.
