UNESCO Director-General condemns attack on Karnak temple
I condemn the attack perpetrated today outside the historic Karnak temple, near Luxor. A prime tourist attraction, Karnak is a symbol of Egyptian civilization and UNESCO World Heritage Site. This attack against human lives is also an attack against culture as a force for dialogue, tourism, and socio-economic development. I'd like to express my solidarity with the government of Egypt. UNESCO stands firmly with to protect heritage against extremism.
