UNESCO Director-General highlights the Transcultura Programme as an initiative with economic and professional impact

On 29 June, Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) highlighted the impact capacity of the Transcultura Programme.
During the 209th session of the Organization’s Executive Board, Azoulay stated, "this is the economic and professional potential that we value, (like) the Transcultura initiative, financed by the European Union, which seeks to build bridges between Cuban, Caribbean and European cultures".
Transcultura: Integrating Cuba, the Caribbean and the European Union through Culture and Creativity is a programme implementedĚýby the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean, officially launched during Ms Azoulay's visit to Havana in December 2019 and funded by The European Union.
One of the objectives of the Programme is to strengthen the skills and capacities of young culture professionals, through a system of scholarships that will be offered in the institutions of the Regional Cultural Training Hub, one of its essential components.
The Hub will group prestigious Cuban academic institutions, where young participants will attend courses in a wide range of subjects. The expansion of employment opportunities, the insertion in new markets or the discovery of spaces for cultural exchange are some of the ways the knowledge they acquire will impact their lives.
Support for the creation of incubators will be yet another Transcultura pillar. In these spaces, participants will be able to develop or upgrade projects linked to the creative and cultural industries that can boost their communities’ development.
The Programme, which benefits 17 Caribbean countries, seeks to harness the diversity and richness of Caribbean cultures, as well as build bridges between peoples from different linguistic areas.
