UNESCO at the Guadalajara International Book Fair 2024

UNESCO joins the Guadalajara International Book Fair (), one of the most important literary festivals in Ibero-America, with different activities, including discussions on challenges of renewed educational frameworks, linguistic and cultural diversity, as well as guidance on digital transformations.
Yalitza Aparicio, teacher, actress, and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for the Indigenous Peoples, will present the bilingual version in Otomi (Hñähñu) and Spanish of What Makes Us Human? The first Mexican edition of the Víctor D. O. Santos book illustrated by Anna Forlati is part of an ongoing publishing project in several languages and different countries with UNESCO as part of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages 2022–2032.

Yalitza will host a read-aloud session and engage in dialogue with children and families. She will also discuss linguistic diversity in a second activity, following the presentation of the book edition by the Querétaro State Editorial Fund. This event celebrates her return to FIL Guadalajara after four years when she participated in the launching event of the second edition of the book Mexico and UNESCO. UNESCO and Mexico: A History of a Relationship as part of the Organization 75th anniversary.
Moreover, the SM Foundation and UNESCO will launch the Spanish version of the Global Report on Teachers. The document helps countries address the global demand for teachers, increasing interest in teaching and improving their training. It highlights the crucial need for 44 million primary and secondary teachers worldwide by 2030 to achieve SDG4 Inclusive and Equitable Quality Education.
The FIL Pensamiento section will host a debate with Indigenous women writers and activists, Yásnaya Aguilar from the Ayuujk People, Mikeas Sánchez from the Otetzame People and Liliana Ancalao from the Mapuche People in Argentina, joint with UNESCO and Spain, the Guest of Honor at FIL Guadalajara 2024.
