UNESCO hosts a roundtable of National Alliance for Women's football
On 2 December 2019, UNESCO New Delhi hosted a day-long round-table meeting of National Alliance for Women’s football that brought together various stakeholders from across the country on one platform to propel Indian women's football to the global stage and build alliances to nurture women's football while taking into account the diversity of the country. The deliberations primarily focused on using football as a tool for empowerment of women and girls.
The round-table meeting was convened by the (CEQUIN) and the Australian High Commission in New with the objective to promote football as a potent tool to empower adolescent girls across the country. The Alliance was an opportunity for all stakeholders to share ideas, synergize and converge efforts, cultivate innovative partnerships, collaborations and pilots.
The overarching objectives of the meeting were to increase opportunities for girls to participate and compete; raise the profile and success of women’s football in India; drive cultural change to encourage and normalize women in the sport; and enhance investments to create opportunities for engagement.
The National Alliance for Women’s football was launched with CEQUIN as its lead convener to promote football and sports as a tool for development and a direct contributor to the achievement of . UNESCO’s partnership with CEQUIN seeks to increase participation and enhance investment for women in football, with women’s empowerment as a larger goal.
