UNESCO organizes a training workshop on Man and Biosphere Programme in Kabul

07 June 2015 - UNESCO Offices in Afghanistan and Pakistan, in partnership with the National Environmental Protection Agency of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, ECO Science Foundation, IUCN Pakistan and the National MAB Committee of Pakistan, held a training workshop with the Afghan National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) on the UNESCO’s Man and Biosphere Programme in Kabul.
At the workshop’s opening ceremony, Mr. Paolo Fontani, Director UNESCO Kabul, welcomed all the participants and the experts from Pakistan. Mr. Ghulam Mohammad Malikyar, Deputy Director General of NEPA expressed his gratitude to all participants and appreciated the efforts of UNESCO and partner agencies in organizing the workshop. Mr. Manzoor Hussain Soomro, President ECO Science Foundation appreciated the partnership and ensured that ECO Science Foundation will keep supporting similar activities in the region.
In the closing session, H.E. Mr. Mostapha Zaher, Director-General, National Environmental Protection Agency of Afghanistan, expressed his appreciation for the efforts of all the partners who assisted in organising the workshop.
The workshop will assist the Afghan Government in launching the MAB Programme in the country and submitting the nomination for its first biosphere reserve during the course of 2015.
