UNESCO organizes workshop on Holocaust education at the Comparative and International Education Society annual meeting in Toronto

The International Bureau of Education of UNESCO organized on 12 March a panel discussion entitled 鈥淗olocaust education in the 21st century鈥 on the occasion of the annual meeting of the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) in Toronto.

The panel reviewed some of the main issues educators face when teaching about the Holocaust today. It included presentations on the role of Holocaust education in shaping contemporary cultures of remembrance, focusing on examples in Poland and Israel. The panel was also an opportunity to present the findings of a study currently undertaken by UNESCO and the Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbooks Research on the status of Holocaust education worldwide in textbooks and curricula. 

UNESCO publications, such as  were also presented. The panel was chaired by Clementina Acedo, Director of the UNESCO International Bureau of Education and took place in presence of Eckhardt Fuchs, Deputy Director of the Georg Eckert Institute.
