Reserva de Biosfera

• Currently, the main objective of the Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB) is to enhance the World Network and improve the functioning of biosphere reserves, which are proposed by national governments to the relevant MAB bodies.

• In recent years, Peru has been one of the most active countries in Latin America in the MAB Programme. It currently has 7 biosphere reserves, including one transboundary reserve, which were designated between 1977 and 2021.

• These reserves constitute landscapes for biodiversity conservation to benefit the local, regional, and national populations. They foster the exchange of best practices and international cooperation, stimulate scientific research, promote the participation of young people, indigenous native and peasant communities, gender equality, while considering the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
