UNESCO presents a collection of Underwater Heritage & Diving Cards to raise awareness on the protection of the underwater cultural heritage
The sport diving community is essential to underwater cultural heritage protection. Leisure, non-professional and professional divers interested in submerged archaeological sites can become the guardians of certain sites and be a valuable assistance to national authorities. However, remember that this heritage belongs to everyone, so please respect and protect our shared heritage. If you think you may have discovered a new site or artefact, take pictures, document its location, make notes and alert the responsible authorities. Who knows, you might just have made an important archaeological discovery.
The States Parties to the UNESCO 2001 Convention adopted a Code of Ethics for Diving on Submerged Archaeological Sites. Please read and spread the Code of Ethics throughout the diving community.
