UNESCO’s Innovative Tools for Media and Information Literacy

Media and Information Literacy can help improve our understanding of key topics for sustainable development including internet governance, media pluralism, digital transformation and AI. Learning and applying MIL is essential for the design of public policies relating to these areas.

91Âé¶¹¹ú²ú¾«Æ·×ÔÅÄ recently introduced two new user-friendly tools aimed at promoting MIL learning in the digital age.
Audio-Based MOOC
Think Critically, Click Wisely: Media and Information Literacy in the Next Normal
With billions tuning in daily to audio content via podcasts, radio or mobile devices, UNESCO launches its first fully audio-based MOOC. Think Critically, Click Wisely: Media and Information Literacy in the Next Normal uses storytelling and experiences to engage listeners in exploring MIL concepts.
Tailored to the challenges and opportunities of the digital age, this MOOC equips individuals with the knowledge and competencies to understand and critically engage with information both online and offline.
Guided by experts, the 20 thematic modules cover a range of topics, from fundamental MIL concepts to contemporary issues such as artificial intelligence, mis/disinformation and hate speech.
Each module features an introduction, three episodes and an audio quiz, providing a comprehensive learning experience. The MOOC is available in English and Spanish, with selected episodes also available as a podcast series on the UNESCO Podcast library, as well as streaming platforms, including Spotify, Deezer, and Amazon Music.

E-version of UNESCO’s Media and Information Literacy Curriculum
The e-version of UNESCO’s MIL Curriculum complements the resource Media and Information Literate Citizens: Think Critically, Click Wisely (Curriculum for Educations and Learners). Designed with digital learning trends and user convenience in mind, this e-tool offers structured pedagogical suggestions to enhance understanding and skills in navigating the digital landscape. Users can interactively click through content and references directly, with each module and unit accessible through separate tabs. Additionally, downloadable PDF files are provided for offline access and reference.
UNESCO is committed to advancing MIL across all forms of learning worldwide, partnering with stakeholders to expand the reach of the now available in 7 languages: English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Turkish and Albanian.
