The UNESCO Regional Office in Santiago and the Faculty of Education of Universidad Diego Portales will unveil the research titled Teacher Trainers in Six Latin American Countries: Institutions, Practices, and Visions. This virtual meeting, with an estimated duration of 90 minutes, aims to promote a technical-political dialogue on teacher training and the development of public policy recommendations.

Details of the report: The document analyzes the characteristics, competencies, and practices of primary education teacher trainers in countries such as Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, and Peru. It provides a systematic view of the beliefs and public policies surrounding school teaching in these countries.

The significance of this publication lies in its focus on initial teacher training, a critical component to enhance the teaching capabilities of the school system. Despite its importance, there has been a notable lack of information about teacher trainers in the region. This study seeks to fill that void, offering insights and data that can influence future educational policies.

About the event: The online activity will begin with opening remarks by Claudia Uribe, director of UNESCO Santiago. Subsequently, Cristián Cox, director of the Center for Comparative Education Policies at Universidad Diego Portales, will present the main findings of the study.

A discussion panel, moderated by Pablo Fraser from UNESCO Santiago, will feature experts like Diana Revilla and Luiz Paulo Ribeiro. The expert voices will discuss the implications of the study and share their perspectives on the topic. A Q&A session will allow attendees to interact with the panelists, and the event will conclude with words from the dean of the Faculty of Education at Universidad Diego Portales, Mrs. Paula Louzano.

This event is shaped as a unique opportunity for those interested in education in Latin America and the Caribbean, allowing a deep understanding of the current situation and potential paths for improvement in teacher training in the region.
