Winners of “Young Reporters for the Environment” contest named
The Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) International Jury meeting to select excellent articles, videos and photos on environmental issues took place in May in Copenhagen, Denmark. This annual competition is organized by the , one of UNESCO’s key partners to implement the .
At the Jury meeting, in which UNESCO was invited to participate among other jury members, prize winners were chosen from more than 4400 articles, 7700 photos and 550 videos submitted from 25 countries around the world, in different age categories (11-14, 15-18, 19-21). The works vary on the theme ranging from biodiversity and food consumption to energy saving, and were coherent with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted as Agenda 2030 of the United Nations.
Moreover, many of the laureates proved that their observations on the environmental problem on local level as well as their critical thinking developed through reporting scheme, mainly organized at schools around the world, share the objective of Agenda 2030, in particular mobilizing and empowering the Youth through Education as one of the SDGs target.
