For the 400th anniversary of the birth of Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, the Mayor of Seville has launched the initiative “Year of Murillo” in order to spread the knowledge of the art of this magnificent painter. This project includes five programs: exhibitions, itineraries at “Casa de Murillo”, activities on the street, musical and art performances, research and publications. One main event has undoubtedly been the exhibition “Velázquez. Murillo. Sevilla”. This great exhibition at the splendid building “Hospital de los Venerables” has been organized under the curatorship of the commissioner Gabriele Finaldi, Director of the National Gallery. It has aimed to show the relation between these two outstanding artists (Velázquez and Murillo), which were both born in Seville.
