Young people from 32 countries gather in Almaty to discuss Artificial Intelligence in education
On 13 August 2024, the Third International UNESCO Model, themed 鈥淓thics of the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Education鈥, took place in Almaty, Kazakhstan, under the chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the . This large-scale event, held under the patronage of UNESCO, brought together 53 youth delegates representing 32 countries.
Over the past seven years, the UNESCO Model鈥攐ne of the Federation鈥檚 largest educational projects鈥攈as expanded from a city-level initiative to an international platform, becoming a regular venue for young people from around the world to exchange views.
As part of the cultural programme, on the first day, delegates visited the Shymbulak Mountain Resort, adding a unique cultural dimension to their educational experience. The trip provided participants with the opportunity to enjoy the picturesque scenery of the Trans-Ili Alatau.
At the end of the second day鈥檚 programme, winners were announced in the following categories:
Best Idea and Approach: Turkmenistan, Abdyleziz Saryyev
Best Speaker: Egypt, Naima Umiryayeva
Best Presentation: Malaysia, Nadzratul Insyirah Binti Muhammad Nazomi
Bolat Akchulakov, President of the World and Kazakh Federations of Clubs for UNESCO, highlighted in his opening speech: 鈥淲ith the advancement of technology, it is crucial to consider ethical aspects and ensure that AI serves to enhance education while adhering to the highest standards of fairness and integrity. I am confident that the Third International UNESCO Model serves as a platform for important discussions and the development of innovative ideas to address the ethical challenges of AI in education.鈥
Lam Tai Yin, a participant from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China, shared their experience: 鈥淭aking part in the International UNESCO Model has been an exceptionally unique experience for me. The event united young people from diverse cultures and perspectives, and the synergy we achieved was truly remarkable. Participants from all over the world exhibited warmth and openness. I sincerely hope that the friendships we built here will endure despite the distances between our countries.鈥
The main goal of the event was to deepen participants鈥 knowledge and understanding of UNESCO鈥檚 work on global challenges and key priorities.
The Third International UNESCO Model on 鈥淓thics of the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Education鈥 was organised by the World and Kazakhstan Federations of Clubs and Associations for UNESCO, in collaboration with the UNESCO Regional Office in Almaty, with the support of the National Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan for UNESCO and ICESCO, and the Shymbulak Mountain Resort.
