Youth friendly health service: A vital key to better health and wellbeing for youths

These services recognize the distinct challenges faced by young people and aim to create an environment where they feel comfortable seeking care, especially on Sexual and Reproductive health services. In line with that UNESCO through the Our Rights, Our Lives Our Future (O3) Plus project in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, developed and institutionalized the Students’ Health Service Assessment Questionnaires and Scorecard.
The student’s health service scorecard is a performance-based management tool aiming at assessing the provision of Youth Friendly Health Services (YFHS) at university health facilities as a strategy to improve service delivery for young people.
The tool effectively assesses the level of young people's satisfaction with the health services provided, serving as a vital instrument for healthcare facilities management to make informed decisions on enhancing and refining the delivery of Youth-Friendly Health Services (YFHS). As one of the healthcare professionals quoted saying. Cited as one of the healthcare professionals:
We are extremely grateful to UNESCO for strengthening our capacity to receive feedback from our clients through these evaluation questionnaires. This has enabled us to receive feedback from our clients but also elevate our scores towards meeting standards set by the ministry
To amplify the effective use of the Students’ Health Service Scorecard within campuses, UNESCO brought together 38 participants on 26-27 March 2024 in a technical meeting to strengthen the use and management of the tool. Participants of the meeting included representatives from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, NATCOM, TACAIDS, project benefited higher learning Institutions and student representatives.
I now feel comfortable getting medical services from this facility, I know I can share my feedback through Scorecard questionnaire form
This engagement enabled transfer of knowledge and skills that enhanced the setting of goals and strategies for improvement of Youth Friendly Health Services using scorecard. This initiative contributes to the realization of SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education).
