The Biennale of Luanda is a joint initiative by the African Union, the UNESCO and the Government of Angola

What is the Biennale of Luanda?

The Biennale of Luanda 鈥 鈥淧an-African Forum for the Culture of Peace鈥 is an international event organized by the African Union, the UNESCO and , that aims to promote the prevention of violence and the resolution of conflicts, by encouraging cultural exchanges in Africa and dialogue between generations. It is held every two years in Luanda, the capital city of Angola.

As a space for reflection and dissemination of artistic works, ideas and best practices related to the culture of peace, it brings together representatives of governments, civil society, the artistic and scientific community, and international organizations. It participates in the implementation of the "Plan of Action for a Culture of Peace in Africa/Make Peace Happen" adopted in March 2013 in Luanda, Angola, during the Pan-African Forum "Sources and Resources for a Culture of Peace."

Biennale of Luanda 2025

he 4th edition of the Biennale of Luanda will take place in two phases, in the capital of Angola:

  • July 2鈥3, 2025 鈥 Ministerial-level Intergenerational Dialogue, Thematic Forums, and Side Events

     

  • November 12鈥13, 2025 鈥 High-Level Event, Results Presentation, Travelling Exhibition, and Cultural Festival

The theme of the 4th edition

The theme of the 4th edition, 鈥淗onoring the past, enhancing achievements, building the Africa we want鈥, in harmony with the AU theme, 鈥淛ustice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations鈥. This event is coinciding with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Angola's independence on November 11, the Biennale of Luanda 2025 will be held under the slogan 鈥Angola 50 years: Preserving and valorising the achievements made, building a better future鈥.

The goal is to show how the history of Africa contributes to the construction of a culture of peace through the production of common narratives for African citizenship and belonging.
