Multicultural Mexico with its indigenous languages

Mexico has a great social, cultural and linguistic diversity with multiple opportunities, but also challenges that must be addressed through interculturalism and multilingualism. The Social and Human Sciences, Communication and Information, Culture and Education sectors work together to promote and revitalize indigenous languages and have redoubled their efforts in view of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages 2022-2032, led by UNESCO, in whose construction Mexico played a key role, for example, by hosting the 2020 High Level Event towards the Global Plan of Action of the Decade that guided the formation of the Declaración de los Pinos (Chapoltepek). We have collaborated in the exchange of indigenous knowledge, the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage and the promotion of indigenous languages through digital platforms and services.
