Engage and Partner with UNESCO
UNESCO implements with its partners over 130 programmes in the Arab Region to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals
UNESCO' is firmly anchored in the 2030 Agenda and places a particular emphasis on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighting the importance of the global partnerships for sustainable development as outlined in SDG 17.
The SDGs constitute a path towards a better and more sustainable future for all by addressing the global challenges that we face today: poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, and obstructions to peace and justice. They represent a goal that can be reached by forging strong global partnerships and fostering international cooperation.
A successful development agenda requires inclusive partnerships at the global, regional, national and local levels. It is built upon unifying principles and values as well as a shared vision and shared goals placing people and planet at the forefront.
Many countries require Official Development Assistance to encourage growth and trade. Yet, global aid levels are falling and donor countries often abandon their commitments to bolstering development-oriented financial aid.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the global GDP declined by approximately 3% in 2020, shifting the global economy into the worst recession since the Great Depression.
Strong international cooperation is needed now more than ever to ensure that countries have the means to recover from the pandemic, build back better and achieve their Sustainable Development Goals.
