About

The UNESCO Tehran Office (UTO) was established in January 2003. Its mission is to carry out UNESCO’s work through activities in five main areas: Education, Natural Sciences, Social Human Sciences, Culture, and Information and Communication.

UTO cooperates with several organizations to strengthen the education system by supporting national initiatives that enhance quality and inclusive education. In Natural Sciences, UTO collaborates with experts, Centres and Chairs to generate knowledge and build capacities. UTO’s Social and Human Sciences programme helps people understand each other. It aims to foster cooperation to build lasting peace. In Culture, UTO works with various entities to protect and preserve both tangible and intangible heritage, while promoting cultural diversity. Through its Communication and Information programme, UTO supports the preservation of Iran's documentary heritage, promotes universal access to it, and raises awareness of its significance.

UTO achieves its objectives by closely cooperating with the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO, key governmental partners, and UN agencies. UTO remains committed to supporting Iran in its mission to strengthen its capacity to address the needs of its young and growing population, while also assisting the country in achieving sustainable development goals.
