Fritz Lang's motion picture Metropolis (1927) is without doubt a famous testimony of German silent film art, a testimony that made history. The combination of motion picture and architecture which had a glittering premiere in Berlin in January 1927, and an unparalleled success all over the world ever since became the symbol of a (film) architectural model of the future. A number of these source copies of Metropolis have been identified in archives around the world and for part of the inscription.
