In Pakistan, the educational crisis is characterized by significant barriers to access, quality, and equity. , especially girls and those in rural areas, are out of school. The education system is marred by structural challenges in governance, capacity development, financing, and monitoring and evaluation, impeding progress toward inclusive and equitable quality education.
UNESCO education programmes in Pakistan target the most disadvantaged and marginalized groups. Youth are a key priority for UNESCO, given their vital role in combating inequality, driving sustainable development, and building peace. UNESCO’s key interventions in education include policy development and advocacy, system strengthening, capacity building of education personnel including teachers, and sector coordination. Inclusion and equity, greening education, digital transformation, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and higher education are priority areas.
