Maya Gabeira, UNESCO Champions for the Ocean and Youth
An internationally renowned professional surfer, Maya Gabeira has won the Billabong XXL Award Global Big Wave Awards for five consecutive times (2007 to 2010) in the Best Female Performance category.
She describes herself as a witness to the degradation of coastal areas and is dedicated to preserve the oceans.
As UNESCO Champion for the Ocean and Youth since 2022, she is at the forefront of UNESCO efforts to empower youth and mobilize citizen action to revitalize and protect the oceans.

Nadia Nadim, UNESCO Champion for Girls’ and Women’s Education
Nadia Nadim is a Danish professional footballer and doctor of Afghan origin. After fleeing the civil war in Afghanistan to Europe, she played for some of the best teams in the world: Manchester City, Portland Thorns, PSG in Paris, and now AC Milan.
Nadia Nadim has been named in 2019 UNESCO Champion for Girls' and Women's Education for her role in promoting sport and gender equality, her contribution to UNESCO's educational work for young people, her advocacy for girls' and women's education and her support for the Organization's work around the world.
She delivered a compelling video message for this year's International Women’s Day discussion centered around the theme, "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress." Sergey Bubka, UNESCO Champion for Sport
Ukrainian Sergey Bubka, the "Tsar of the Pole Vault", won the World Athletics Championships six times (1983-1997). He was European champion (1986), Olympic champion (1988) and, in 2001, he was named Hero of Ukraine, the highest honorary title that can be awarded by the Ukrainian government.
