ESD for 2030 Global Network

Learning to act for people and planet

UNESCO鈥檚 ESD for 2030 programme, launched in 2020, produces and shares knowledge, offers policy guidance and technical support to countries, and implements projects on the ground. In 2021, countries committed to take urgent action to implement ESD through the 鈥(May 2021). The following year, the UN Transforming Education Summit recognized ESD as a powerful strategy to transforming education. 

UNESCO鈥檚 ESD for 2030 programme fosters peer learning and innovation through information, networks and partnerships.   UNESCO鈥檚 work in education for sustainable development is guided by the  and .   The Framework covers action in five areas: policy, learning environments, educators, youth and communities.

To support this action at the national, regional and global levels, the ESD for 2030 Global Network (ESD-Net 2030) was established in October 2022 to promote synergy and encourage cross-sectoral collaboration (More information and how to join below).

ESD-NET 2030 鈥 a global network to accelerate progress

Sustainable development goals can only be met through the concerted efforts and cooperation of the global community. The ESD for 2030 Global Network (ESD-Net 2030) was launched in October 2022 to create synergy and foster cross-sectoral collaboration to support the implementation of ESD for 2030 nationally, regionally, and globally. 

The Network is a global community of practice and a laboratory of ideas for action that provides opportunities for exchange and collaboration among education authorities and professionals, youth, researchers, etc. through activities structured around the following objectives:鈥 

  • Promising practices, knowledge-sharing and mutual learning鈥 
  • Global advocacy and policy-making 
  • Collaboration and partnerships 
  • Monitoring and evaluation

Based on the success and lessons learned from the previous , this network aims to facilitate the implementation of the and its by enhancing knowledge sharing, collaboration, mutual learning, advocacy, monitoring, and evaluation, among a wide range of education stakeholders including governmental agencies, civil society organizations, educators, youth, research institutions, UN entities, and international development partners. 

While the Network is broad and open, there will be some specific groups to be established as follows:

  • Group of ESD for 2030 countries: this group is comprised of the representatives of the ESD for 2030 Country Initiatives* and their key national implementing partners.
  • Group of global and regional partner institutions: this group is composed of UNESCO鈥檚 partners who are expected to enhance international cooperation in further promoting and implementing ESD.
  • ESD community of practice: any individual and/or institution interested in ESD, not covered by the above-mentioned two categories, is able to join the ESD-Net 鈥渃ommunity of practice.鈥 To this end, they should to the ESD Newsletter mailing list.

No. ESD-Net 2030 activities will be open to all who engage and implement ESD programmes and projects.

Yes. Any existing networks and associations are welcome to share and work with UNESCO and the ESD-Net 2030 members to strengthen collaboration, knowledge sharing and mutual learning.
