The Bertelsmann Stiftung's Transformation Index (BTI)
The Bertelsmann Stiftung’s Transformation Index (BTI) analyses and evaluates whether and how developing countries and countries in transition are steering social change toward democracy and a market economy. Guided by a standardised codebook, country experts assess the extent to which a total of 17 indicators have been met for each country included in the analysis, one of which focuses on political participation as freedom of expression.
