Human Development Index (HDI)

The HDI was created to emphasise that people and their capabilities should be the ultimate criteria for assessing the development of a country, not economic growth alone. The index ranks countries on their level of human development using a variety of indicators, such as life expectancy at birth, expected years of schooling, mean years of schooling and GNI per capita. The data are sourced from international agencies that possess the expertise to collect national data on the key indicators of human development.
