Professional background
Sumiko is a strategic adviser specializing in responsible AI and ethical innovation. She brings expertise in global communications and intercultural management. Grounded in anthropology, she explores the links among languages, cultures, and identities, applying cultural and emotional intelligence (CQ/EQ) to technology and wellbeing. She co-led the IEEE P7014 working group as Vice Chair to develop and publish the Standard for Ethical Considerations in Emulated Empathy in Autonomous and Intelligent Systems, and contributes to AI standardization at ISO SC42 and the Standards Council of Canada. Her work with UNESCO’s Women4Ethical AI supports inclusive global collaboration for a better technological future.
