Project and activity overview
ChildSafeNet conducted a rapid assessment on generative AI and child online protection to understand how children and young people in Nepal are using AI; to understand the patterns, trends and magnitude of emerging risks of misuse of the generative AI for children and young people (including for the creation and spread of AI child sexual abuse material, hate speech, cyberbullying, online predators, mis/disinformation, etc.); and to develop a set of recommendations for awareness, advocacy and actions to protect children and young people from the malicious use of AI. As a part of the rapid assessment, the team conducted a systematic review of national and international laws, policies, ethics, practices and trends on generative AI and children. Besides, the project team surveyed to understand how children in Nepal are using generative AI. Likewise, key informant interviews with the relevant experts and duty-bearers were conducted as well as focus group discussions to understand the use and misuse of generative AI and how children are impacted.
