EngageMedia is a nonprofit that promotes digital rights, open and secure technology, and social issue documentary. Combining video, technology, knowledge, and networks, we support Asia-Pacific and global changemakers advocating for human rights, democracy, and the environment. In collaboration with diverse networks and communities, we defend and advance digital rights.

In October 2023, EngageMedia and the MOCI co-led a multi-stakeholder consultation. The consultation included academe/experts, government, private sectors, embassies, international development agencies, and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs). The consultation aimed to provide the MOCI with expert feedback regarding the processes needed to finalise its circular letter on ethical AI. We organized a two-day capacity-building workshop in Bali, Indonesia, from February 27 to 28, 2024. The primary objective of this workshop was to fortify relationships with both governmental and private sectors and to ensure that AI governance takes into account rights-based approaches and perspectives. The aforementioned circumstances have led to our request for inclusion in the National Steering Committee, which aims to provide support for the implementation of the UNESCO AI readiness assessment in Indonesia. This committee will comprise experts from both public and private sectors, encompassing leaders in industry, academia, civil society, research think tanks, national government, and international organizations. Additionally, the National Steering Committee holds a significant responsibility in evaluating the process, addressing any gaps, and devising comprehensive solutions for their resolution.
