European Digital Rights (EDRi)
Overview of the organization
European Digital Rights (EDRi) is a not-for-profit network organisation working for the protection of human rights in the digital context in Europe. Our network is a dynamic and resilient collective of NGOs, experts, advocates and academics working to defend and advance digital rights across the continent. For over two decades, EDRi has served as the backbone of the digital rights movement in Europe.
Project and activity overview
EDRi coordinates a broad civil society coalition on the EU's Artificial Intelligence Act, providing expertise and advocacy on topics including prohibitions, AI in law enforcement and migration contexts, surveillance of workers and more. This is brought togethprohibitionser also with expertise from our members and partners in the coalition, on AI and accessibility, transparency, impact assessments, standardisation, environment, national security, general purpose AI, definitions and many other elements. A recent analysis of the AI Act, jointly with some of the members of our coalition, is available here: https://edri.org/our-work/eu-ai-act-fails-to-set-gold-standard-for-human-rights/. At EDRi we are also pursuing new workstreams on the intersection of digitalisation and climate justice, and on the digitalisation of essential public services.
