Hacks/Hackers

Overview of the organization
Hacks/Hackers brings technologists and journalists together to collaborate to build the future of media, to ensure journalism continues to play its essential part in the functioning of democracy. Started as a network of grassroots groups that spread around the world, Hacks/Hackers convenes people for cross-disciplinary collaboration to encourage active exploration and prototyping of new technologies and how they might impact journalism. The organization is a registered non-profit in the United States, and acts as a sponsor for projects on AI, trusted sources, online community building, misinformation and other related topics.
Project and activity overview
Hacks/Hackers has recently convened experts to discuss the impacts of AI for journalism, for example at SXSW in Austin (https://lu.ma/ai-journalism-house-at-sxsw-hosted-by-hacks-hackers-2024), and also run events where people prototype products that use AI for journalism (https://lu.ma/hh-ai-hackathon-brown-4-2024). We are planning more events and projects where we bring together the journalism and technology sectors for collaboration around trustworthy, safe and credible AI.
