Business & Human Rights Resource Centre
Overview of the organization
The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre is a non-profit human rights organisation that promotes corporate accountability and transparency by drawing attention to the social and environmental impacts of over 10,000 companies worldwide. The BHRRC database—which includes relevant company policies and practices, details of lawsuits over alleged rights violations, and human rights benchmark rankings — is relied on by executives, advocates, and investors, amongst others, to develop more nuanced understandings of corporate behavior, governance, and material risk.
Project and activity overview
The Tech & Human Rights Team at the Resource Centre monitors allegations of violations linked to technology companies and technology investors across all continents. We systematically document harms caused or facilitated by surveillance technologies, artificial intelligence systems, dual-use software and devices, heavily polluting and/or carbon-emitting technologies, as well as other technologies that demonstrate risks to privacy, freedom of expression, the right to non-discrimination, labor rights, human dignity and other human rights. Past and current projects include: updating the Tech Company Dashboards, conducting research on tech investor human rights due diligence, working with partners to facilitate stakeholder engagement between tech companies and digital rights groups based in the Global South, publishing the ICT Know the Chain benchmark, monitoring company policies on protecting human rights defenders, and producing thought pieces on trends we see in different segments of the industry.
