Professional background
I am Professor of Ethics and Political Philosophy at the University of Montreal, member of Mila - Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, and hold a Canada-CIFAR Chair in AI ethics. I serve as Director of Governance and International Partnersphip of OBVIA (International Observatory on the Societal Impact of AI, Quebec).
In 2017, I instigated the Montreal Declaration project for the responsible development of AI. In 2020, I led the international citizen deliberation process as part of UNESCO's consultation on the Draft Recommendation on the Ethics of AI. In 2021, I was appointed expert to the Council of Europe.
